Mechanical Pump Seals
Mechanical pump seals have replaced braided packing at an increasing rate. Once a mechanical Seal has been installed it can be expected to perform for up to 20 years
(depending on the service). The cheif advantage of a mechanical seal is it does not require the retorquing that pump packing does as it begins to leak. With a mechanical seal, as the seal faces wear, the energizing springs maintain the seal faces pressed together. No mechanical seal adjustment required.
